The kitchen has been totally renovated with oak cabinets and custom tile countertops and flooring. The top of line Wellborn cabinets have many storage implements including sliding trays, a lazy susan and more. Upgrades include: 5/8" maple dove-tailed drawer boxes that have under drawer glides, all wood construction (no particle board), solid oak drawer front, door fronts and frames, shelves are 3/4" plywood wrapped in vinyl, exposed exterior sides are oak veneer (not vinyl), top of the line "Blumb" hardware, wood block corner bracing, 3/4" plywood hang strips. There are a wide variety of sizes and the 42" wall cabinets create more storage than you could ever dream of. There is a stackable washer/dryer compartment with venting to the outside and the door open directly to the garage to make carrying in groceries a breeze. The wallpaper, tile and center light fixture all reflect the beauty of the Atlantic coastline giving you the feeling of being on vacation while you prepare meals for your guests. The floor has 5/8" Durarock cement board under the imported custom Spanish tiles for stability (no cracked tiles).
The wrap around 3 season porch also has a fireplace for winter gatherings (we heat it for Christmas Eve Dinner quite easily). It has ten foot sliders with screens and a ceiling fan to let in the cool evening breezes on a summer night. The yard is beautiful when the trees are in bloom and the wind is whistling through the massive pine trees that flank the yard.
The dining room has a cozy feeling while still being large enough to hold three china cabinets, and table with seating for four or six. It has a center light fixture and opens to the three season porch. The light fixture has a dimmer switch to create just the right ambience for any occasion. The room is adjacent to the kitchen and open to the living room to make party guests feel they can float back and forth while snacking.
The living room is the most inviting of all being 29 x 20 with a large wall sporting three oak bookcases and a fireplace with an antique oak mantel (the wall was completely redone in 2006 with oak and oak veneers). There are six windows (three in front and three in back) to allow plenty of natural light and summer breezes to flow into the room. There are two ceiling fans with lights and outlets on most of the walls. A DirecTV satellite is available. The hardwood floors are original to the home with 6 inch wide boards in the living room and dining room. They are staggered lengths and held in place with screws covered with cherry pegs. The hardwood floors in the rest of the home are the narrower boards.
The den or third bedroom has a slider to the back yard with two additional windows. The light and fresh air make this an inviting room for guests or can be used as a home office. It has beautiful warm pine paneling and 2 closets (one with built-in drawers). The alcove can be a sewing area, reading or sitting space.
The master bedroom is spacious and faces the back and east sides. There are three windows and a ceiling fan with lights. The two separate closets (with lights in each) have ample room for clothes, shoes and a large shelf. There are garment rods outside of each closet to hang clothing. The oversized room has plenty of space for a king size bed and several dressers. The ceiling fan and light have a switch to allow multiple settings so you can dim the lights and have a slight gentle breeze for those early spring evenings.
The second bedroom also has a full private bath. There is a center light fixture and the two windows facing the front and east sides allow breezes carrying the spicy viburnum scents to flow through in the spring. It also has a spacious closet with a garment pole.
The main bathroom is of ample size and has beautiful gray tile throughout. There is an very large medicine cabinet with two sliding mirrors and three compartments with multiple shelves. The vanity flows the length of the room with a storage cabinet under the sink and 3 drawers on the opposite end. The center is open for a stool or laundry hamper. There is a full shower and tub. The second full bathroom is off the second bedroom so that area makes a nice guest suite. It has beige tile throughout and plenty of storage.
The hall has a large double door linen closet and a smaller inset closet for light bulbs, and small items. There is also a large, deep front hall closet for coats, vacuums, etc.
The whole house fan quickly cools off the house on those warm days with cool nights. We rarely run the air conditioning as the well insulated brick keeps the house temperature very moderate year round.
